Chidambaram Port transported 57,090 tonnes of coal in 24 hours to
MV Tara Laura created a new record by
taking off from the ship at berth number 9.
It surpassed the earlier record of 56,687 tonnes of coal
unloaded at berth no.9 from ship 'MVOcean Dream' on 27 October 2020.
1,82,867 tonnes of cargo is handled in a day, which is the
highest volume of cargo handled in a day in 2021.
AIM collaborates with Dassault Systems
Atal Innovation Mission (AIM) NITI Aayog in collaboration

'Student Entrepreneurship Program' (September 3.0) on 16 August 2021.

Island formed in Japan by volcanic eruption
Undersea volcanic eruption has created a new landmass in
Japan.
This gave a new addition of land approximately 1,200 kilometres
(745 mi) south of Tokyo to the more than 6,000 islands that make up the
Japanese archipelago.
This island is naturally formed in the Pacific Ocean
The new island is crescent shaped and its diameter is about
1 kilometre.
Give India collaborates with Sattva
Give India in association with Sattva has launched a new
ed-tech initiative called Bharat EdTech.
Give India will manage the partner relationship and fund
administration while Sattva will be the design and program management partner.
The initiative aims to enable online access to education for
10 lakh underprivileged school going children across India.

HAL signs 5,375 crore contract with US
firm Hindustan Aeronautics (HAL) with US GE Aviation for Rs
5,375 crore for purchase of 99 F404-GE-IN20 engines and support services for
Tejas Light Combat Aircraft (LCA) The
contract is signed.
The engines are to be supplied by 2029
the largest deal and purchase order for the LCA ever placed
by LCA.
The LCA was inducted into service in 2004.
Indonesia's most active volcano Mount Merapi erupted on 16
August 2021.
Merapi, located close to Indonesia's cultural capital
Yogyakarta on the island of Java, has been particularly active in recent months
and officials raised its threat level to the end of 2020.
More than 300 people were killed in the last major eruption
on Mount Merapi in 2010.
It was its most powerful eruption since 1930.
Ministry of Power disseminates Rules on Clean Energy
The Ministry of Power has circulated the Draft Rules on
Renewable Energy for seeking comments from stakeholders.
The Ministry has circulated the "Draft Electricity
(Promotion of Renewable Energy through Green Energy Open Access) Rules, 2021.
These rules are proposed for procurement and consumption of
green energy including energy from waste to power plants.
Cyber Security Trust Fund Launched
The World Bank has launched a new Cyber Security
Multi-Donor Trust Fund.
It aims to better define and systematically implement the
cyber security development agenda, to help ensure a more critical reflection of
cyber security considerations.
It has been developed as a related trust fund under the
World Bank's Comprehensive Digital Development Partnership Umbrella (DDP).
AMTRON, a partnership between Cordite AI and I-Sec

has signed a tripartite MoU with Cordite A.

This will establish a strong facial recognition technology

New 75 Vaned Bharat trains to start in 75 weeks
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced that 75 new Vande
Bharat Express trains to connect different parts of the country will be
launched in 75 weeks to mark the 'Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav'.
Indigenous semi-high speed train sets, also known as Train
18, are being promoted and the Railways is set to introduce at least 10 of them
to connect around 40 cities by August 2022.
Four new districts announced in Chhattisgarh
Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel has also
announced four new districts and 18 new tehsils in the state.
The new districts are Mohla Manpur, Sarangarh-Bilaigarh, Shakti,
Manendragarh.
At present there are 28 districts in Chhattisgarh and after
the announcement of four new districts, this number will increase to 32.
New Taxi Track at Visakhapatnam Airport A new taxi track
N5 has been commissioned at Visakhapatnam by Member of
Parliament MV Satyanarayana.
This will provide additional access to the runway and will
be able to handle a higher number of commercial aircraft, especially during
peak hours.
Construction of parallel taxi track and runway resurfacing
will also happen soon.

10 organizations get permission to use drones
The Civil Aviation Ministry has given conditional permission
to 10 organizations to use drones for various purposes.
Prominent organizations include Mahindra & Mahindra,
Steel Authority of India (SAIL) and Bare Crop Science, Blu-ray Aviation,
National Health Mission in Mumbai and the Government of Karnataka.
This permission is valid for a period of one year from the
date of approval or till further orders.
'Life Freedom Index 2021' report released
HDFC Life released the 'Life Freedom Index 2021' report on
16 August 021.
The '2021 LFI' was held in 14 cities with Nielsen.
It measures the level of financial awareness, planning and
adequacy of planning.
According to the report, with the onset of the coronavirus
pandemic in the last two years, consumer confidence in financial preparedness
for the future has waned.
NCUI Hat Unveiled in Delhi for SHGs Products
An exhibition-cum-sales platform 'NCUI Hat' was inaugurated
on 16 August 2021 at the premises of National Cooperative Union of India (NCUI)
in the national capital.
This is for products made by lesser known co-operative
societies and self-help groups.
The Hat will create an enabling environment for "Shaker

Inflation in FY22 will be within target range
Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said that inflation is
expected to remain within the prescribed range during FY 2021-22.
GoM - is actively monitoring the price movement of essential
commodities like edible oil, pulses, fruits and vegetables, meat, etc.
RBI has been asked to keep inflation at 4 percent, which may
be in the range of 2 percent or more.
India to import 1.2 million tonnes of GM soymeal For
the first time, India has decided to import 1.2 million
tonnes of genetically modified soymeal, which is used as animal feed.
After the oil is extracted from soybean seeds, soymeal is a
solid remaining raw material.
There are three types of GM foods, one with a genetically
modified organism, another with a living modified organism, and a third with a
non-living modified organism (NLMO).
Soymeal is NLMO.
