ASEAN Regional Forum Ministerial Meeting Organized

The 28th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF-28) was held virtually as part of the 54th ASEAN Foreign Ministers' Meeting (AMM 54) and related meetings.

Minister of State for External Affairs led India's delegation to the ARF.

The meeting was chaired by Brunei Darussalam.

India co-chaired the ARF Workshop on Implementation of the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

 

ISRO chief inaugurated the Health QUEST

study by Dr.  Of .  Sivan, Secretary, DOS/Chairman, Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) formally inaugurated the Health QUEST Study (Health Quality Upgradation Enabled by Space Technology of ISRO) on 4 August 2021. 

The objective of this study is to reduce human errors and strive towards achieving zero defects and quality service in emergency and intensive care units of hospitals.

 

Rajasthan Police to get President's Police Medal

President's Police Medal for two police officers of Rajasthan and Police Medal for 19 police officers and employees of the state has been announced on the eve of Independence Day.

Additional Director General (ATS & SOG) Ashok Kumar Rathore and Additional Director General of Police (Vigilance) Biju George Joseph have been selected for the President's Police Medal.

 

India and Russia discussed energy cooperation.

 Oil Minister, Hardeep Puri held a video conversation with Russian Energy Minister Shulginov on taking forward energy cooperation between the two countries.

India's cumulative investment in oil and gas projects in Russia exceeds USD 15 billion.

It is the single largest destination for Indian foreign investment in the oil and gas sector.

Russia is the largest investor in India's energy sector.

 

Arunachal Pradesh signs MoU with NEEPCO

 Arunachal Pradesh on 14 August 2021 signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOA) with NEEPCO, a power utility company, for the development of two hydroelectric projects in the state.

An agreement has been signed with North Eastern Electric Power Corporation (NEEPCO) to set up a 90 MW project in Tawang and another 120 MW plant in West Kameng.

 

DBSE gets approval for certification

The Delhi Board of School Education (DBSE) has received approval from apex bodies like the Council of School Education for examination, certification and equivalence with other recognized boards.

With this move, students of schools affiliated to DBSE will be able to take admission in other boards and its certificate will be valid for admission in higher education institutions.

 

Ministry of Social Justice launched "TAPAS" portal

Union Minister Virendra Kumar launched an online portal 'TAPAS' (Training for Augmenting Productivity and Services).

Its purpose is to provide access to lectures and other study materials by subject experts, like a physical classroom.

The main objective of the module is to provide training for capacity building of the participants and to enhance the knowledge and skills.

 

President Kovind approved 144 gallantry awards.

President Ram Nath Kovind has approved the conferment of 144 gallantry awards to the personnel of armed forces, police and paramilitary forces.

These include one Ashoka Chakra, one Kirti Chakra, 15 Shaurya Chakras, four times two Sena Medals (Gallantry), 116 Sena Medals (Gallantry), five Nausena Medals (Gallantry) and two Vayu Sena Medals (Gallantry).

Babu Ram has been awarded the Ashoka Chakra posthumously.

 

Pakistan successfully test-fired Ghaznavi

On 12 August 2021, Pakistan successfully conducted a training launch of Surface-to-Surface nuclear capable ballistic missile Ghaznavi. 

Its objective was to ensure operational readiness of the Army Strategic Forces Command (ASFC) and to re-validate the technical parameters of the weapon system.

Missile Ghaznavi is capable of delivering multiple types of warheads up to a range of 290 km.

 

3 COBRA commandos get 'Shaurya Chakra'

Central Reserve Police Force has been awarded 3 COBRA commando's Shaurya Chakra. 

He has been awarded for showing bravery and killing four Naxalites in Sukma district of Chhattisgarh.

Shaurya Chakra is the third highest military gallantry medal awarded in peacetime.

Those 3 commandos are Deputy Commandant Chitesh Kumar, Sub Inspector Manjinder Singh and Constable Sunil Chaudhary.

 

SEBI sets up a panel

The Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) has set up a panel of experts. 

They will look into concerns that may hinder the country's process of moving the trade agreement from the current T+2 to T+1 (trade plus 1 day).

Currently, trades are settled after two working days from the date of the transaction.

India moved from a T+3 cycle to a T+2 settlement cycle in April 2003.

 

India chairs BRICS Working Group

Agriculture Ministers of BRICS countries held virtual discussions on 14 August 2021 ahead of the summit to be chaired by India in September 2021.

Its theme was "BRICS Partnership to Strengthen Agricultural Biodiversity for Food and Nutrition Security".

BRICS Agricultural Research Platform has been developed by India to promote collaboration and its expansion.
